Obama volunteers canvasing our neighbhood

Obama Volunteers

L answered the door when the Obama volunteers came knocking.  Then he promptly came upstairs to encourage me to come down for a photo with them.  I was getting ready for our halloween party – hence the pigtails.

Day 53

Day 53

“The Word on the Street”
Sunday, 10/26/08

Shirt: Hope – can be purchased in black through CafePress.

Where:
1. Chinese and Trick-Or-Treat –
We tried a new Chinese restaurant today, but I don’t think we’ll eat there again. Also was our neighborhood’s trick-or-treat day. G dressed as an elephant (we figure he can wear the costume for circus protests too:)). I was going to pin his Babies for Obama button on the costume, but after hearing from the people canvasing for Obama that there were such angry McCain supporters in our neighborhood, I figured best for him to go sans button. I wore a t-shirt, of course. Half of the candy he received is vegan…I was surprised. Still all horrible junk, but encouraging for when he’ll actually eat the candy he collects. Meanwhile, L and I will enjoy plenty of taffy this week. L passed out candy at our house and said he had some good comments about our Obama sign. Some people said “we need more of those in our neighborhood.”

Day 52

Day 52

The Word on the Street”
Saturday 10/25/08

Shirt: Simply Obama – can be purchased through CafePress.

Where:
1. Party –
L made this little short film and we showed it at a halloween party at a downtown gallery tonight. It was a costume party and I had to incorporate an Obama shirt. Cheerleader for team Obama works, right? Lots of positive comments about my costume, but nothing negative. I met a guy who’s been out canvasing for Obama, and he said support seems good. The Obama door knockers visited our neighborhood this afternoon. I got a photo with them too. They said some of our neighbors told them “you’re not welcome here. get off my property.” I suppose every neighborhood has some people like that. We also finally got our Obama sign today. I feel a strange sense of relief in having it…been one of those things on my mental list that I just could not get done.

Day 51

Day 51

“The Word on the Street”
Friday, 10/24/08

Shirt: Polar bears for Obama Biden.  Can be purchased from CafePress.  I was inspired to wear this shirt after seeing Gov. Palin wearing her polar bear lapel pin again.  It’s just so wrong for her to try to present herself as anything other than chief enemy to polar bears – and all animals.

Where:
1. Indian –
G’s still not feeling well. We had dinner at the Indian restaurant and came home early to get some rest.

Shirt: Barack’s How I roll – can be purchased through Cafe Press.

Where:
1. Sick little G –
I have a sick kiddo, so we were inside all day. I can’t believe it’s been 50 days of Obama.

Day 49

Day 49

“The Word on the Street”
Wednesday, 10/22/08

Shirt: Retro Obama 08 – can be purchased through CafePress.

Where:
1. Work day –
so…how about the hockey mom’s $150,000 wardrobe. Really, this wouldn’t be a story or upset me if she weren’t trying to sell herself as the advocate for every average joe. I don’t understand why people buy into that. She’s not average…McCain’s not average…they are not looking out for people like me. On the other hand, check out this video where the Obamas talk about how they do most of their shopping at the Gap. There are a lot of arguments from the right that make me upset, but I think the “elitist” propaganda is near the top. I don’t equate intelligence with being elitist. I do, however, think having 8 or 10 or 11 houses (however many) might make you an elitist. I think being an heir to the fortune your family made in the beer industry might make you an elitist. I think a $17,000 a day wardrobe allowance might make you an elitist. I think being a really smart, well educated community organizer turned politician, who really did start out “just like me” makes you brilliant, driven, and admirable.

Obama for America has a new offer for a free bumper sticker if you don’t have one yet.

Day 48

“The Word on the Street”
Tuesday, 10/21/08

Shirt: iVote for Obama – can be purchased through CafePress.

Where:
1. Attachment Parenting Month and catching up -
One of our AP friends hosted an open house tonight in celebration of AP month. We had a great time and found lots of AP support for Obama. Not surprising. After the open house we met up with one of our very favorite friends who is in town from Columbus this week. We walked in and his first words “Love it…love all of it…” talking about the shirts and blog. Nice to hear that. He said that his republican leaning parents in Florida will be voting Obama this year. Yay!

Shirt: Never anything false about hope – available through CafePress.

Where:
1. Mexican dinner –
we had dinner at a local Mexican restaurant.  Yum.  I’m starting to feel just a little confident that Obama will win…even a bit excited.  It’s looking good, right?  L follows electoral-vote.com daily.  Check it out if you haven’t before.  Ohio has this lovely blue outline.  I think it’s worth noting that in other countries all across the world, Obama is strongly supported.  This AP story out of London is interesting.  Here’s an exerpt:

It is no surprise Obama, the Democratic nominee, is popular in Europe — that was clear when he drew tumultuous crowds to his open-air speech in Berlin this summer — but the scope of the lead suggested by the polls is startling.

In Switzerland, for example, Obama has 83 percent support to John McCain’s 7 percent; in Britain, 64 percent to McCain’s 15 percent, and in France, 69 percent to McCain’s 5 percent. The closest they get is in Poland, where Obama has 43 percent and McCain 26 percent.

“The results tell you there is a really strong global desire for change in America, at least in the countries where we polled,” said Julian Glover, The Guardian’s polls reporter. “There’s not a lot of support for McCain anywhere.”

Shirt: Obama Mama 08 – can be purchased through CafePress. Fitted jersey style.

Where:
1. Party day –
We were joined by 30 of our favorite people in celebrating G’s birthday today. A mama shirt was appropriate, I thought. That’s our niece, and G’s only cousin, in the photo with me. Isn’t her shirt great? Such a cool kid. Great news on the Colin Powell endorsement. Good day.

day 45 – the word on the street

“The Word on the Street”
Satuday, 10/18/08

Shirt: iHope – can be purchased through CafePress.

Where:
1. Oh my migraine –
I wore the iHope shirt today…really I did…but I ended up with a migraine and went to bed before taking a photo. Before the migraine came, we were at gymnastics, Starbucks, and the grocery store, so the day wasn’t completely lost. Can anyone in other areas tell me…does everyone with a McCain/Palin sign have two of them in their yard? Or is it just a small town, OH thing?
