Day 18

“The Word on the Street”
Sunday, 9/21/08

Shirt: Hope – can be purchased through CafePress. I have some new shirts, but didn’t want to wear them kayaking, so chose an old favorite for today.

1. Kayaking and Chipotle –
somehow L and I found time to take the kayaks out in celebration of the last day of summer, and I’m so happy for that. We went to a small lake that’s just about 15 minutes from our house. The other people there were all men, not very young, and all fishing. A few people were fishing from the shore and blasting the Browns game from their car. It seems I cannot get away from the football. We found some nice, peaceful spaces anyway though. We listened to Sleep Through the Static on the drive home. Kind of our anthem of this summer, it seems.

” Shock and awful thing to make somebody think
That they have to choose pushing for peace, supporting the troops,
And either you’re weak or you’ll use brut force-feed the truth
The truth is we say not as we do”

“But who needs to see what we’ve done?
Who needs please when we’ve got guns?
Who needs keys when we’ve got clubs?
Who needs peace when we’ve gone above
But beyond where we should have gone?
Beyond where we should have gone
We went beyond where we should have gone”

You can listen to Jack Johnson singing the entire song here. Happy Fall!
