day 23 – the word on the street

“The Word on the Street”

Shirt: iVote for Obama – can be purchased through CafePress. I love this shirt too! I especially love the style of this shirt. It’s a junior raglan, and I’m wearing it in a large. It’s made by American Apparel, and the fit is perfect.

Where:
1. Debate/Neighbor day –
glad to see McCain gave up his cut and run strategy (or was that a tactic – hmmm), and showed up for the debate. It looks as though reports are leaning heavily toward Obama as coming out ahead in the debate. I thought he came out far ahead. I feel like watching McCain is sort of like Watching Palin. McCain is clearly far more intelligent, but they both just stick to a few talking points and use those to answer questions that are not even remotely related. Did you all see Palin’s interview with Katie Couric, btw? Wow…that whole scenario of her potentially becoming VP terrifies me more each day. I couldn’t help thinking every time McCain spoke during the debate, that Palin could never answer these questions (either could I, of course, but I’m not running for VP). What are they going to do next Thursday? I really, really hope it’s the same debate format. It was a good day for Obama – a good week even.

I wrote a while ago about this veggie, Obama supporting neighbor w/the bumper stickers, and today, while walking with G, I met her. She’s has kiddos too, and she and her husband were really friendly. I still can’t believe this woman lives so close. Oh, and they have two big, black lab mix dogs! There are no McCain signs, but two Obama yard signs in our little neighborhood, and neither of them belong to us. We really need to order one. My guess is as soon as we do, our next door neighbors who simply can’t understand why anyone would choose Obama, will put out a McCain sign. I suppose it’s better to be on the offensive and get ours out first though. 🙂

Maybe we’ll design our own yard sign using CafePress. I love their sample – I have a similar saying on a bumper sticker in my office, but more general, as it says “speak your mind, even if your voice shakes.” CafePress also has a nice selection of pre-designed yard signs available.

day 14 – the word on the street

Day 14

Day 14

Wednesday, 9/17/08

Shirt: Obama Good for You – can be purchased through CafePress. The words are made up of fruits and veggies. I thought it was the perfect Obama shirt for a vegetarian. You can get this design on so many items – even long sleeved shirts and sweatshirts for toddlers. I see now that CafePress has shirts designed specifically for vegetarians too.

Where:
1. Work day –
sorry to be so boring today, but I only left the house for a walk through the neighborhood. In the photo, I’m trying out a new recipe for vegan brownies. Our friends just had a baby (Congratulations Susan and Jonathan!), and I know they’ll be in need of chocolate for those long nights. Anyway, I stayed in to catch up on some cooking and cleaning. One of things I didn’t consider when I committed to wearing Obama shirts for 60 days, is that that I’d need to go somewhere each day to keep things interesting. I promise that Thursday will be more exciting to read about!

Wanted to add quickly that it must be a joke that a story about Gov. Palin’s eyeglasses is a headline on cnn.com’s home page, right? I have to admit that I’m worried about this election. This country is in economic crisis and our news media is writing about fashion? Really? We’re so far off right now and the focus seems to be lost in the celebrity. A friend shared this op ed piece with me today, and I recommend you all read it. McCain and Palin are dangerous.

day 6 – the word on the street

Day 6

Day 6

“The Word on the Street”
Tuesday, 9/9/08

Shirt: Obama 08 – available at Obama for America. While you’re there, take a look at the Action Center and find a way to get involved if you’re not already.

Where:
1. Park and Playground –
please note that the playground designers not only added a barn (w/a rock wall) to the playground, but they made it an Ohio Bicentennial barn. If you’re not familiar, at least one barn in every county in Ohio was painted this way to celebrate our bicentennial. At the playground barn, there are farm animals painted on the inside, so we tell G it’s the farm sanctuary park. Speaking of sanctuaries and animals, I have to say McCain could not have chosen a VP candidate that would fire up animal advocates more. There are several animal advocacy discussion boards bursting with info about getting active for the Obama campaign. Gov. Palin seems to have this sheer lack of respect for all non-human living things – plant and animal. It seems risky to me for McCain to move in that direction, when in this country it’s really become a trend to be “green.” It’s never been more clear that blue and green are dependent on one another.
